Two students entered the Omega Psi Phi Audition in 2021 and won 1st and 2nd places. They advanced to the next level and won 2nd and 3rd places in that audition. One advanced to the national level in April 2022 and did not place. It was a great all-expense paid trip plus a cash prize! Congratulations to both students! Two students played in the 4-piano musical for “Winterlude” which is a major Christmas production sponsored by Whitesburg Baptist Church. This year a trombone soloist was the featured guest artist! The HMTA sponsored a Virtual Christmas Palooza in December. The Studio Spring Recitals were held at the Huntsville Museum of Art’s Great Hall in April. All students took part this year, and it was great to “see and hear” the students in-person! One student was a graduating senior from Bob Jones High School! He shall be missed. Huntsville Music Study Club hosted their annual Scholarship Audition in-person at UAH Roberts Hall and three students entered. There were two piano scholarships available, and two students were chosen as winners from this studio. All received monetary prizes! In addition, they were asked to perform for the club at their May meeting. Two students were featured in the annual Huntsville Music Teachers Association’s Honors Recital held in April. One recital was for all ages of students, and one was just to honor the graduating seniors. Fifteen students entered the in-person AMTA District Piano Audition held in April. All made the top grade in both performance and theory and advanced to the State Audition held virtually in May. At the State audition the judges were out-of-state college piano faculty. Four students were selected as winners, one student was chosen as Honorable Mention Winner, and nine students received the grade of Outstanding. The State AMTA Conference was held in June at UAB in Birmingham, AL. The winners all performed in their recitals in-person this year. It was the first time in 2 years that this event was held in-person. The guest clinician declined to come because of Covid, however, the guest artist did come and presented a master class and a recital. Several students play the piano for church services regularly. Other students have been asked to fill in as substitute pianists or accompanists when needed. I am delighted that they can do this easily! Congratulations to all students and parents for another good year of piano study. |
